Do You Want to Buy a Duck?

As I referenced to last night, one of my fondest Christmas time memories (other than Christmas day itself)  is participating in church Christmas programs.   My absolutely, positively favorite production that we did was Two Nights before Christmas by Lynne and Phil Brower in 1984.   I was nearly 15 years old. It was directed by our Assistant Pastor, Allen Carpenter and his wife Emily (who later died of cancer)*. It was their last Christmas with our church.  A few months later, they moved  a few towns away.  In 1990, they arrived at a church in Cortland NY, where I went to college.  I was able to attend the church.  I participated in a Christmas cantata there called An Old Fashioned Christmas.  That's another of my favorite musical memories.
Two Nights Before Christmas is a story of toys who come to life to share the Christmas story with the toy store owner, Mr. Mc Duff.  Pay particular attention to the scene is at 6:09 in the following video.   It's the scene where the toys are introduced to Mr. Mc Duff.  In this scene, you will find the reference to my blog title today.  Here it is nearly 30 years later and that scene still makes me laugh.
Mr. Mc Duff was played by John Dodd, who was a history teacher at Central Baptist Christian Academy at the time.  I was Annie the doll, my brother Jeremy was Ronald R. Robot.  The clown was my friend Cathy and the duck was my friend Marie.   Willie was played by our dear friend Sheli, who sadly died nearly 4 years ago. It's memories like these that makes me miss her and Emily C. so much!
Now my own children are involved with Christmas musicals. It's one of those times I am so thankful so much for my Godly heritage and traditions that I can pass down to my own children.  I love their enthusiasm for learning their parts and solos.   I can't wait until Christmas day to see it all come together.

I came across a version of this production that a Colorado church did last Christmas.   It is broken up in 3 separate videos.  Here's the link to the first video.
