Impossible to Understand
On Thursday afternoon, May 29, around noon, 42 year old State Trooper Christopher Skinner was at a routine traffic stop on Interstate 81. It wasn't too far from my hometown of Chenango Bridge NY. Trooper Skinner grew up nearby also. Suddenly a man from Florida swiped the car that Trooper Skinner had stopped and killed him instantly.
It was revealed at a news conference hours later, that the man admitted to hitting the trooper on purpose. Then had the nerve to say that he was in a 'time warp' that he had no idea how he got from Connecticut, hours away from the accident scene. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I've seen other law enforcement officers' funerals, the last being in April when a Johnson City officer was shot to death. This death hit home for me. My mom went to high school with Chris' dad and uncle. Chris himself graduated from the same high school a year behind me. I found his picture in my senior yearbook last night.
A tear jerking moment before the service was when our Governor Andrew Cuomo greeted the family. Another touching moment as the pianist was playing Abide with Me, seeing hundreds of law enforcement officers march into the church. It's a huge church that can hold over 1000 people. I've been there a few times for different events.
This tragedy does not make sense to me at all. What really was going through the murderer's head when he hit the officer? Why was Chris taken only a month before he was to be married? By all accounts, he was a very caring, hard working man not only as a state trooper but in other activities in his life. Here on earth, we will never know. I'm praying for comfort for his family and friends during this time.

It is so hard for a parent to live longer than their child so it is very important now to pray for his mother and for his siblings, children, and to the one he was engaged to.
