My Inspiration!
Yesterday was one of the most stressful, scary days of my family's life. As I posted before about 5 weeks ago my mom was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Yesterday was the day of the surgery to take the diseased thyroid out.
I was heartbroken to see my mom so sick beforehand and so much in pain and grogginess after the surgery, but one inspirational thing that came out of the day was to see the deep, deep love my parents have for each other. (tears are starting to come)
My mom and dad met nearly 43 years ago on a blind date. My dad's best friend at the time was dating my mom's cousin. They thought my parents should meet. Well, they did that was around Thanksgiving of 1965....they were married August 20, 1966.
My parents have gone through some really bad times in those 43 years, but they have always come out of them stronger.
There was a moment yesterday just before the surgery where my parents were standing next to each other with that starry eyed lovey dovey look. I commented to them how I enjoyed watching them in love!
Then throughout the day the anxious, scared look on my dad's face really broke my heart. He really does love my mom!!!! I knew that all along, but yesterday was the greatest example I've ever seen.
I was nervous too. For some reason the recovery room personnel made us wait 2 hours (instead of 1) to let us in to see my mom. They were waiting for a room for her, so when they finally let us in, we couldn't stay long.
I am so blessed to have parents who after 43 years together are more in love with each other than ever! It's also a comfort to know they love God too and are leaning on Him to get them through this newest trial.
*a summary/update on my mom's condition
The surgery was posponed for an hour. During that time we were able to visit with my parents pastor and his wife. That was a blessing too having them there.
The surgery took about 2 hours. The surgeon informed us that the cancer was confined in the thyroid. He said something happened to the parathyroid's blood supply (something that he must have anticipated before the surgery), so Mom is going to have to make sure her calcium levels are ok before she can come home.
I mentioned the recovery room fiasco. I got home about 4. I got a call from my dad about 9:15. My mom ended up in a lot of pain since we had seen her at 2:30. After a couple of pain pills and a restful night, she is feeling better today.
*Update 12:00 PM My mom is home from the hospital!
My dad said she may be able to come home today.
