Adventures of Pickle Making

One of my favorite foods growing up other than my Grandma Corwin's homemade spaghetti dinners was another homemade specialty, canned dill cucumber pickles.  Both of my grandmas and my mom made this yummy delight.

When talking to my friend Julie about having some zucchini to use up, she suggested a recipe that she has used many times for pickled zucchini.  She had shared a jar with me before so I was so happy when she let me copy her recipe to use. She also provided the jars and some ingredients to get started.  She was even willing to help me make them, but the extreme heat and humidity we had the end of last week prevented that from happening.

Pickling and canning are two of those skills I could kick myself for not letting my grandmas teach me when I was growing up, but with Julie's recipe, instruction and a little help from the internet, I accomplished the task.  YUMMY!!!!  I'm so happy how they turned out.  Now I can continue the family tradition of pickling.  YAY!!!!

Julie is a widow I have been helping for almost 3 years. During our many travels around town,  she has been a source of great advice on cooking, gardening and crafts.  I've called our trips adventures.  The first time I took her out, we went to the cemetery her husband and other family is buried and picked bittersweet in a field.  We've gone fruit picking a few times.  In our many trips to the craft stores, I have accumilated supplies for cardmaking and other crafts.   My garden is filled with many of her flowers she's shared and some cherry tomato plants she was given and couldn't use.    I'm so thankful she's been willing to share her knowledge with me as we've travelled together all these years.   I'm looking forward to many more new recipes and many more adventures.

If you would like the pickle recipe, let me know.  I'll share it.

My nephew made no-cook pickles that were delicious! No need to sweat over the stove!
