Quiet Night and other reflections
It's about 7:30 on a Saturday evening. Darkness has fallen. As I have sat here on the front porch for the past last hour it has been so neat to watch the sky go from puffy dark clouds to total darkness. This is actually my favorite time of night to be outside, but I never take the time to do it.
Many nights growing up I spent summer/early fall evenings sitting with my Grandparents on their back patio. I loved sitting in the nice cool air! For those of you who don't know, I had the priviledge to grow up across from my mom's parents. It was so much fun, yet now a bit sad knowing they aren't there to visit when I go home to visit my parents.
Tonight, many years later sitting on my own front porch. I am hearing the crickets chirping, some dogs barking and my daughter asking me why I'm outside barefooted. Ha ha. I see and hear the traffic from the nearby highway. That also reminds me of my old neighborhood.

I also wanted to share something that happened earlier today. My dear friend Diane called me to inform me she was at the local Kmart shopping (a half hour drive for her) and wanted to know if I wanted to join her. It worked out I could go. I'm so glad because we don't get to see each other very often. We became friends just before I moved back to Elmira nearly 7 years ago. It's about 45 minutes between us now. We talk on the phone once or twice a day most days. I bought a shirt for my husband. Then Diane and I went out for lunch.
After we parted ways, I decided to go visit my daughter Gabrielle's grave. I hadn't done that for a few months. I told her I was wondering if she and her Grandma Cone had met yet and was having fun together. I was sort of getting weepy when I heard a crow squaking and a squirrel squealing. I thought it was as if they were yelling at me not to be sad. I got a chuckle out of that.
Then I went back to the car and of all songs "Jesus Loves Me" was being played. It was actually a part of a bigger song, but I cried as I heard the kids sing it in the backround of the chorus. It was the song Tim sang to Gabrielle during her first few hours and it was also a favorite of my Mother in Law. "Jesus Loves Me" was played twice at her funeral last week.
The next song on the radio was "What a Day That Will Be," which has been my comfort song the past week. Here's verse 2, which summarizes my heavenly hope!
"They'll be no sorrows there, no more burdens to bear
No more sickness no pain, no more parting over there
But forever I will be with the ONE who died for me!
What a day, glorious day that will be!!!!!!!! " -Jim Hill
God knew what I needed to hear at that moment. That was such a neat (and emotional) experience!
Anna has joined me. She saw I was writing about "Jesus Loves Me." She is singing it sweetly and trying to do the motions for it. AWWW!!!!! She knows how to melt my heart :)
