Radio Fun

My week of nostagia continues. I was listening to my lifetime favorite Christian radio station http://www.wpel.org/ this morning when "RANGER BILL!!!! WARRIOR OF THE WOODLANDS!!!!!" blared from speakers. I loved that show, Ranger Bill. Children's Bible Hour was my absolute favorite . I got to see "Uncle Charlie and the CBH cousins" when they came to what is now known as Davis College in Johnson City. I used to write CBH every week after the show for quite a while. WPEL still runs Ranger Bill. Children's Bible Hour as I knew it is off the air. It was replaced with "Down Gilliad Lane" a drama. Uncle Charlie though can still be heard on the devotional show "Keys for Kids" http://www.cbhministries.org/ I'm listening to WPEL right now. Many of the announcers are the same when I was listening to it as a child. LaVerne Sollick and Patty and Larry Souder, are just a few names I listened to growing up. The same goes for WNBF radio. http://ww...

Noisy Night....Beautiful Night

OK I know that's not as flowing as the Christmas carol title, but it was very interesting to me to just sit and listen to all the noises of the neighborhood on this beautiful spring night. There was the tweet tweet of the birds, the pound pound of the basketballs as my son and his friend were playing in the driveway, and the vrrrm vrrrm of the constant traffic of the nearby highway. The most shocking and unique sound of the night was the sound of "The Entertainer" blaring throughout the neighborhood from the...ICE CREAM TRUCK????? Yes, it was a beautiful night, but still quite on the cool side. It probably didn't get up past 50 degrees today. I for one wasn't ready for cold ice cream, but my kids jumped at the chance to get some. It was a hopeful sign that summer is on the way. It was peaceful to me just sitting and taking in the sights and sounds of spring. It is so nice to be able to sit out on the front porch and see green grass and budding trees unlike 2 weeks...

Reminders

As I sat at the playground on this cold Spring day, I took the time to reflect on my blessings. My three children were playing happily together. It brought a smile to my face. These children are a dream come true. The past few weeks have been filled with memory joggers of how interesting, fun, and honestly at times frustrating life has been. Through it all I have had very special friends and my patient family to get me through it all. Some examples of those reminders of how family and friends have meant the world to me throughout my life. I've been able to expand the list of friends who I've found online that I've lost touch with. That's been a neat experience! I'm thankful for all my friends who in their own special way had an influence on my life. I've also been able to make new online friends who I may never meet in person, but we have become prayer warriors for each other. That has been very encouraging too. I also had great support on Facebook and other mes...

Down Memory Lane....otherwise known as Main Street

Image
Main Street Johnson City NY. On the right hand corner is my first home. We lived on the 3rd floor. As most of you know, my mom had surgery last week to remove a lymph node out of her neck. She is recovering well and we haven't heard any news from the pathologist. That's a good sign. Before the surgery, I took the time to walk around a bit around the village where I was born and raised for the first 2 years of my life. A lot of things have changed. Next to my favorite park of all times, there's a Newspaper printing building and a huge brand new Walmart, replacing the Endicott Johnson shoe factory my dear Grandma used to work in. The park itself has changed a bit. Much of its old playground equipment has been replaced with new stuff. I was disappointed the tiny elephant slide didn't survive the cut. However, the carousel just was refurbished and will be a part of my kids' lives for years to come when I go home to see my parents. I drove by some of the ...
