Under His Wings

I came across a folder with some old writing in it.  As I mentioned in my last post, I have always loved to write. One particular writing treasure I found was an article that I wrote for one of my "Student Press Corps" articles for the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin. I wrote for the newspaper from early 1985 until I graduated from high school in 1988.   My principal, Donald Benza, and vice principal, Paula Nickerson,  were very supportive of my journalism endeavor. Mr. Benza was gracious enough to let me interview him many times about different things going on at school.  I won 2 awards in the 3 years that I wrote for the paper. In my search today, I came across one of my favorite articles that I wrote. Nationally known PBS kids show host "Commander" Mark Kistler was visiting my school as part of an arts festival.    I remember Mark being a kind and helpful interviewee.   It was ex...

As Father's Day 2011 is here, I would like to take this opportunity to honor my wonderful dad, Bill House.  He has been such a great support to me through all my 41 years.   He worked hard so my brothers and I could attend Christian School for many years.   His main job was working at the Endicott Johnson shoe company for 41 years.  He also worked at WSKG radio, which I know influenced my decision to go into the world of broadcasting.  Through my teenage years, my dad encouraged that dream by transporting me to and/or from my internship at WBNG TV in my junior year of high school.  About that time I also started in my Explorer group at WENE/WMRV radio.  He got me to those meetings too.  He and my mom are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary in August.  That is such a great blessing to me.  I know that marriages these days are not lasting that long.  I've seen my parents go though many trials through the years ...

My week of nostagia continues. I was listening to my lifetime favorite Christian radio station http://www.wpel.org/ this morning when "RANGER BILL!!!! WARRIOR OF THE WOODLANDS!!!!!" blared from speakers. I loved that show, Ranger Bill. Children's Bible Hour was my absolute favorite . I got to see "Uncle Charlie and the CBH cousins" when they came to what is now known as Davis College in Johnson City. I used to write CBH every week after the show for quite a while. WPEL still runs Ranger Bill. Children's Bible Hour as I knew it is off the air. It was replaced with "Down Gilliad Lane" a drama. Uncle Charlie though can still be heard on the devotional show "Keys for Kids" http://www.cbhministries.org/ I'm listening to WPEL right now. Many of the announcers are the same when I was listening to it as a child. LaVerne Sollick and Patty and Larry Souder, are just a few names I listened to growing up.
