It's a Great Memory, Charlie Brown!!!!!

Growing up we never went trick or treating, but we did watch "It's a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown."    After nearly 40 years of watching this show I still love it!  "Poison Dog Lips!!!!  Blech!!! Blech"  cries Lucy!  I think my favorite scene is of Snoopy acting to Schroeder's piano playing.  I'm so glad ABC is continuing to carry these timeless classics. My favorite Charlie Brown cartoon is the Christmas edition.  I love Linus quoting the Christmas story from Luke 2.  I also love the Thanksgiving cartoon when Charlie and Snoopy make the Thanksgiving dinner of toast and popcorn.  There aren't many (if any) cartoons worth watching that are made today in my opinion.  There really aren't many shows for adults worth watching these days either.   What is your favorite Charlie Brown cartoon?

Bad Start...Great Day

Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it. Have you ever had one of those days where everything that can go wrong, goes wrong? This morning, my 8 year old chose today not to cooperate getting ready for school.  Of all days, my van would not start.  Thankfully my neighbor was out walking his dog and was willing to help me. When he got the van started, I came inside and was a bit on the flustered side.   I thought what else could go wrong? It ended up that I had a nice talk with my Mom.   I love our morning talks!   Then my dear friend Diane called like she usually does.  We had a really great talk this morning too.   It's a bright sunny day.  I have no reason to be frustrated.  I'm going to get up now and get some cleaning done.  I do hope that this sun stays until after 3 PM.  I enjoy watching Nate and Anna play on the playground with their friends ...

Yummy Tomatoes..special memories

I have always loved the taste of fresh garden tomatoes!  My Grandfather was a very dedicated gardener for many years.  I couldn't wait every year for his tomatoes to get ripe for us to eat.  I remember my Grandma canning jars and jars of tomatoes every year.  Beans were another yummy veggie my Grandpa grew.  I used to help cut the beans for Grandma and Grandpa to can.   This is really making me miss my Grandparents.   It was 8 years ago yesterday that my Grandma died.  Grandpa had died a year and a half earlier.   I'm thankful for the many years I had with them.  I don't know many people who had their grandparents into their 30's like I did.  The past few years, I've tried my own hand at growing tomatoes and other veggies.  Because of my April surgery, I wasn't planning on planting any plants this year, but thankfully my friend Julie shared some tomato plants her neighbor had given her.     ...

Finding Treasures

I came across a folder with some old writing in it.  As I mentioned in my last post, I have always loved to write. One particular writing treasure I found was an article that I wrote for one of my "Student Press Corps" articles for the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin. I wrote for the newspaper from early 1985 until I graduated from high school in 1988.   My principal, Donald Benza, and vice principal, Paula Nickerson,  were very supportive of my journalism endeavor. Mr. Benza was gracious enough to let me interview him many times about different things going on at school.  I won 2 awards in the 3 years that I wrote for the paper. In my search today, I came across one of my favorite articles that I wrote. Nationally known PBS kids show host "Commander" Mark Kistler was visiting my school as part of an arts festival.    I remember Mark being a kind and helpful interviewee.   It was ex...

Writer's Block

When I purchased this computer 10 months ago, I did so with the idea in mind that I would like to pursue my writing career.  Do you think I can think of a project to work on now that I can? I've always loved to write.  I always had a notebook with me.  Writing on the bus on the way to and from work was my favorite time to jot my thoughts down.  I had notebooks full of short stories and journal writings.   Many of them I got rid of.  Sometimes I regret that decision.  I still write in a journal, but I'm not as regular in writing in it as I used to be. I really enjoy writing this blog!  I know I'm not totally regular at it, but days like today it prompts me to put my thoughts down. Please pray for wisdom and inspiration.  Today I'm feeling like I need to put this God given desire to use. I'm debating whether to go the short story route.  I've found non fiction to be fun, but I've never found myself goo...

15 years ago.....

I saw one of my high school friends post that she's been in her city for 5 years today.  That got me to thinking that tomorrow (October 8) is the 15th anniversary of the day I made the move to Elmira NY.  I actually stayed in a hotel the first week or so until I found my apartment. I only stayed at WETM TV for a few months (an interesting time in my life that was for sure), but it opened the door to many great opportunities.  I moved down the street from a wonderful church which led me to my wonderful husband.  I was only in Elmira 11 months when I got married. I have met so many special friends through the years too many to mention.   I've worked at the TV station, been a wife and mom, helped my friend Marion with daycare, helped my friends Mildred and Julie with errands and shopping.  I was a MOPS mom for 4 years, 3 of which I was the Publicity Coordinator.  I now am one of the MOPPET workers.  I've been a children's church teacher, AWANA...

Quiet Night and other reflections

It's about 7:30 on a Saturday evening.  Darkness has fallen.   As I have sat here on the front porch for the past last hour it has been so neat to watch the sky go from puffy dark clouds to total darkness.  This is actually my favorite time of night to be outside, but I never take the time to do it. Many nights growing up I spent summer/early fall evenings sitting with my Grandparents on their back patio.  I loved sitting in the nice cool air!  For those of you who don't know, I had the priviledge to grow up across from my mom's parents.  It was so much fun, yet now a bit sad knowing they aren't there to visit when I go home to visit my parents. Tonight, many years later sitting on my own front porch.  I am hearing the crickets chirping, some dogs barking and my daughter asking me why I'm outside barefooted.  Ha ha.  I see and hear the traffic from the nearby highway.  That also reminds me of my old neighb...
